Hi,
I posted this a couple of days ago but got no responses. That's expected
if no one is actually using Bristol.

However, I'd still like to debug why this isn't working. Bristol is
responding to MIDI, but the volume is so low you have to stick you ear in
the speakers to hear it.

I'm wondering, in general, how you go about debugging what Bristol, or
any app, is doing with the sound it's making, and how do you trace that
audio out through alsa? There must be some standard method you guys use.

As one small clue, Bristol won't run at all if jack is running, and if I
start it with its 'oss' option, I get a broken pipe message when I hit a
MIDI key.

   Should I just give up?

Thanks,
Mark

Subject: [Alsa-user] No Bristol sound (or very low...)

Hi,
I think this probably isn't the best place to ask these questions, but
there doesn't seem to be a Bristol email list. (Or any that I found yet.

I'm looking for clues as to why Bristol would, on my AP2496/RME machine,
have very low sound output. I assumed it might be an alsamixer issue, but
nothing other than the masters seems to be controlling it, and everything is
much louder. It produced lots of volume on my SB Audigy machine in the
office.

   I start the app

bin/startbristol -alsa -mini

I am running the distributed binaries. I have not built it myself yet.

alsaplayer is working fine, so alsa works. With jack running Bristol
won't run, which may eliminate it as a soft synth for me right there.

Anyway, thanks for any hints you might have.

Cheers,
Mark
