Hi list,

I'm a new member, but have a problem regarding my SB Live 5.1 (emu10k1) in
my system. Playing of Midifiles isn't working properly, the sound is
distorted.

My system uses plain kernel 2.4.19, and I have a selfcompiled alsa 0.5.12a
(I know it's deprecated ;-), both compiled with gcc 2.95.3.

Normal sound (wav, mp3, CD's or the like) functions properly. Playing of
Midifiles using Timidity and the eawpatches is also not a problem. But I
wondered if it's possible to use the built in midihardware, as I did with a AWE 64 I
had before. Loading the soundfontfile using sfxload (0.4.4a, the prebuilt
one from my distribution) works, pmidi -l also shows the devices, but playing
of midifiles (with pmidi or playmidi) only produces distorted sound. If I
restart alsa (by removing all modules with a SysV initscript) and play a file
first, it's less distorted than when I play it a second or third time.

My /etc/modules.conf is according to
http://www.mail-archive.com/alsa-user@;lists.sourceforge.net/msg00047.html, my
Soundfontfiles are the ones which are
on the CD.

I'm running out of ideas what could be the cause of this problem.

Could anybody please assist me tracking down this problem ?

Thanks in advance
