I posted a while back about not getting correct surround sound with my cmedia 8738 card. Since no one replied to my post, or to a couple other posts about the same problem that i found when digging through the archives, i will ask again.

When I try to use more than 2 channels I get very distorted sound out of the front speakers of my 5.1 set up. This is universal with mplayer, xine, ac3dec, and the pcm test program. Specifically, running
# pcm -r 44100 -c 6 -D surround51 -m direct_interleaved
produces sound of ~140hz with lots of popping.

I found a post on the xine mailinglist:
http://sourceforge.net/mailarchive/message.php?msg_id=1471546
that suggested there is a problem with the buffer size, but running /test/pcm with different -b values did not solve the problem. Some help would be greatly appreciated.
