Dear All, I have been using LM since 7 and had sound working until LM9. I have an athlon xp 1600+, 512 megs of memory, via 8233 southbridge onboard sound which worked with alsa in LM 8.2. I got some broken sound going with LM 9 with the alsa that comes with Linux-Mandrake 9. Of course, it did not work right so I decided to download the latest alsa-driver 9.9.9rc5. I installed it including tools and libraries. They all seemed to compile fine and to install ok but no sound at first. Then I played around with the /etc/modules. conf and actually got an awful drumbeat sound that would not quit until I shutdown. After that I cannot get any sound going at all. I am not sure how the /etc/modules.conf should be with this alsa in LM 9. Here is my /etc/modules.conf:
cat /etc/modules.conf probeall scsi_hostadapter ppa ide-scsi alias eth0 tulip alias parport_lowlevel parport_pc above snd-via8233 snd-pcm-oss alias sound-slot-0 snd-via8233 probeall usb-interface usb-uhci # ALSA portion alias char-major-116 snd alias snd-card-0 snd-via82xx #module options should go here # OSS/Free portion alias char-major-14 soundcore alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0 # card #1 alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss I have unmuted the mixers, etc. I am a newbie when it comes to alsa and sound. I had it working real well with LM 8.2 and the alsa that came with that which I believe was rc2. Any help or suggestions will be greatly appreciated. I know that my sound should work with this. Thanks. Marcia ------------------------------------------------------- This sf.net email is sponsored by: See the NEW Palm Tungsten T handheld.
