I have the SoundBlaster Live Platinum (with the front panel) but I am having a lot of trouble recording voice with it.
Playback is perfect. I am trying to use the mic input on the LiveDrive which in alsamixer appears as "Line LiveDrive" and "Line LiveDrive Capture". Setting the volume of "Line LiveDrive" to reasonable level lets me hear myself speaking in the microphone, but even if I select capture there and increase the volume of "Line LiveDrive Capture" to max, if I run $ arecord | hexdump -C Recording WAVE 'stdout' : Unsigned 8 bit, Rate 8000 Hz, Mono 00000000 52 49 46 46 22 00 00 00 57 41 56 45 66 6d 74 20 |RIFF"...WAVEfmt | 00000010 10 00 00 00 01 00 01 00 40 1f 00 00 40 1f 00 00 |........@...@...| 00000020 01 00 08 00 64 61 74 61 fe ff ff ff 80 80 80 80 |....data........| 00000030 80 80 80 80 80 80 80 80 80 80 80 80 80 80 80 80 |................| * it stays like that until I quit it. The only way I manage to record something is by setting reasonable levels for PCM, Capture and AC97 Capture, selecting capture for Capture and making sure Line LiveDrive is not muted. However, this means that the music I am playing at the same time with xmms also gets recorded. I only need recording for gnomemeeting, but if I record what I hear, the people, that I talk to, hear themselves too, which is definitely annoying. I was thinking of using my onboard sound for that purpose until I find a solution, but unfortunately when I modprobe snd-pcm-oss I do not get /dev/sound/dsp1 which is the one I need for the second card. I tried installing the on-board card as card 0 and I was able to record with non-alsa applications perfectly. Still, I prefer to have the card I actually use as card 0. Does anyone has a solution to any of the problems - recording on Creative Live with LiveDrive, or creating /dev/sound/dsp1 oss compatibilty device. I am running devfs.
