Hi, I have a YMF-754 card (Hoontech ST Digital XG Gold), and everything in regards to normal playback and capture is working fine. Presently, however, I cannot play audio CDs through the S/PDIF out on the cd drive -> XG card cable. The connection is physically okay.
Current configuration: ALSA 0.9.0rc6 48KHz S/PDIF AC3/PCM/DTS DVD disc drive (Pioneer 106S) All mixer settings for IEC958 are at 100%. Playback is working fine from regular files. Analog playback from the CD drive is okay. The problem: The CD drive plays the CD audio disc, and outputs a bitstream on its two-pin S/PDIF interface, attached to the card's CD-Digital input header. That bitstream, however, never seems to get to the mixer. I also am unable to find a mixer control for this, unless it is simply labeled "IEC958xxx", but those are @ 100%. Do I need to capture IEC958 and pipe it to aplayer? Isn't that silly, since the hardware mixer should normally grab the CD-digital and output it on playback devices? Would I need to use the library for digital CD playback (.asoundrc or asound.conf)? If so, how must this be configured? As far as other S/PDIF goes, anything played on the audio card gets output to analog, and S/PDIF out concurrently (good). Anything that the hardware mixer "hears" gets output to the receiver with no problems. Other things: AC-3 passthrough/bypass from DVD-drive SPDIF (possibly the same thing as above): I have not attempted to do so, but what is needed (if anything) to play DVD audio streams (unmodified) through the audio card to the receiver with a capable player (such as mplayer)?
