Hi,

there is a via8233a soundchip on my Epox 8KMM motherboard, that I cannot get
to work with ALSA. I am running a Debian/Woody system with ALSA version
0.9.0rc7. The modules are compiled from source for a 2.4.20 kernel.
modules.conf and friends are configured as advised on the ALSA webpage for
the chipset. The modules load fine, including the OSS emulation. When trying
to play audio, however, nothing is played. Alsaplayer starts up without
complaint, but never advances beyond 0:00. Same with Noatun. Aplayer tries to
play as well, but doesn't actually do anything.

The system bell, on the other hand, is played through the sounddevice, not the
(unconnected) speaker in the box, if the alsa modules had been loaded
before, even if all modules are unloaded again.

Any ideas, what is happening?

Thanks in advance
Jan
