I have tried three or four Linux distro's on my new silvery Mitac Laptop being RH8, M9 & Suse8.1. All have the same problem with sound. Compiling & installing any of the most recent builds of the Alsa Driver/Lib/Util leave me with an awful distortion when playing any kind of PCM audio ie - MP3's in xmms.
I have read some of the listings and tried to alter my laptop's pcm latency setting - although this helped I still have an incredible amount of interference under xmms. This didn't occur under windowsXP which came pre-installed on the laptop. This is the last problem I have with running Linux on this beauty - can someone make my dream come true and help me wipe XP of this lappy for good....
