Description of problem:
============================================================================
==

I have installed ALSA drivers for my system.
Playback is working fine.
I am not able to record.

I have my record player connected to the LINE-IN of my soundcard.
I can hear the disc through the headphones connected to the soundcard.
I can mute the "LINE" channel on KMix and playback is effectively muted.
Only the recording itself does not work.
In default state, e.g. with the command:
 arecord -d 10 -f cd -t wav -D via82xx foobar.wav
no action was taken, ie. the system did nothing until Ctrl-C was pressed.
Then I stopped arts from within Kcontrol.
Now the command above brings me the following message:
 Recording WAVE 'foobar.wav' : Signed 16 bit Little Endian, Rate 44100 Hz,
Stereo
and the recording stops after 10 sec, producing a 1.7MB file with no sound.

After looking around on alsa-project.org and other sites, I have no idea
where else to look for solutions to the problem.
Please help me to make recording work!
If any information is missing from the detail below, please let me know!

By the way, can somebody explain what "NOT ENABLED IN CONFIG"
is telling me (see .../sndstat below)?
Is there a config-file where I can change this?
Does it pertain to my problem above?
