after recompiling kernel on redhat9 laptop with a cs-4236 soundcard... I did also install the mod-utils 2.4.24
the alsa: drivers-lib-utilities; compiled just fine but the .sndconfig is crashing my box. also when I 'modprobe soundcore' I receive the following: Note: /etc/modules.conf is more recent than /lib/modules/2.4.20/modules.dep I viewed the man modprobe, insmod...etc ..but dont quite grasp the concept of modules, other than making the kernel supposedly smaller. such that, after recompiling & installing modutils-2.4.24 .... why does /boot/module-info still link to the older/ur..um newer module-info-2.4.20-6 ???
