Hi Johannes, output of 4 seperate channels on the xfire should work since alsa version from Thu May 15 13:16:00 2003 UTC (2 months ago). I don't remeber which alsa version i've installed (0.9.4 ?) and 4 channel output works for me, i.e. i can use the device surround40 to output 4 channel surround sound. This is a mandrake9.1 installation. i can use the rear channels as intended with xine, mplayer, ac3dec, a52dec or using aplay -D hw:0,1 ...
If your alsa version is older than 2 months, you'll have to update, otherwise, it should work. If it doesn't, then your codec isn't set into extended mode for some reason (e.g. other codec on your card? driver didn't recognize that you're using a cs46xx card with one codec only? some other reason? Perhaps you can recompile alsa-drivers with --debug=detect and look at the messages in /var/log/... for some information) your problem should be solvable ;) HTH, fe -- +++ GMX - Mail, Messaging & more http://www.gmx.net +++ Jetzt ein- oder umsteigen und USB-Speicheruhr als Prämie sichern! ------------------------------------------------------- This SF.net email is sponsored by: VM Ware With VMware you can run multiple operating systems on a single machine.
