I was faced the similar problem on the similar software configuration (but with
alsa0.9.2 instead of 0.9.4),
and I fixed this by installing the latest 0.9.5 drivers.
My hardware was: ASUS P4S533MX motherboard with
onboard ADI AD1980 sound chipset, that has been detected
as SIS7012 audio controller by lspci.
alsa0.9.2 didn't produce any sound inspite of working alsamixer, aplay, etc
alsa0.9.5 fixed this, and music sounds now :)

Maybe that helps you to.

Mike.

hello -

i'm trying to get the onboard sound chip on my motherboard working. all
the modules seem to load OK, the card appears in /proc/asound, alsamixer
displays the mixing controls and i've turned up the levels, i'm able to
send data to the device with aplay or xmms - there just isn't any sound
coming out.

here's what i have:

os: red hat linux 9
kernel: 2.4.20-18.9smp
alsa version: 0.9.4 (freshrpms.net RPM build)
alsa driver: intel8x0
motherboard: gigabyte ga-7dpxdw-p

i have another card in the system that works fine (Delta/66).

a possible side-step around this problem: if anyone knows how to get
"RTCW:Enemy Territory" working with the Delta/66, I won't need to set up
the intel8x0 :-)

any help much appreciated.
