Hello,

if I use pmidi or kmid to play a midi file both seem to do something, but
there is no output. I use pmidi -p72:0 <file name>.
pmidi -l gives:
 Port Client name Port name
 72:0 Rawmidi 1 - MPU-401 (UART) 1-0 MPU-401 (UART) 1-0

Do I have to unmute midi output like the other alsa output. How can I do this?

I have a "SiS7012 PCI Audio Accelerator (rev a0)". About two or three weeks
ago Clemens told me (not in this list) to use modules snd-intel8x and
snd-mpu401 to get midi output to work (thank you for your answer).

Now my alsa modules settings are:
alias char-major-116 snd
options snd major=116 card_limit=2
alias snd-card-0 snd-intel8x0
alias snd-card-1 snd-mpu401
# module options
options snd-intel8x0 index=0 ac97_clock=0
options snd-mpu401 index=1 port=0x300 irq=10
# OSS/Free portion
alias char-major-14 soundcore
# card #1
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
#alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
#alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss
# card #2
alias sound-slot-1 snd-card-1

The bios tells me:
Onboard MIDI Port 300h
MIDI Port IRQ 10

I don't have a /etc/asoundrc and no .asoundrc.
Do I really need one of these?

Thanks for answers.
Ulrich
