Your SiS chip doesn't have a hardware MIDI synthesizer. If you
actually want to hear sounds, you have to connect a synthesizer to the
MIDI port of your mainboard (this is what the MPU-401 compatible port
is for), or you can use a software synthesizer like Timidity or
fluidsynth.
