Howdy. I have been staring longingly at the Ardour site for a while and
finally decided to try to get ALSA working with my Audiophile USB so I could
try it out. Up this point, I have been able to use my Audiophile USB with no
problems at all in KDE via arts (except that recording does not work at all).
So playback was perfect.

I'm running Gentoo linux and so made use of the portage tree to install ALSA.
I also installed the OSS emulation layer so I could still use common apps.

My problem now is that all sound sent to the Audiophile becomes whitenoise,
like listening to a big endian audio file via a little endian codec. I've
tried searching the archives, Usenet and the online docs but so far I am not
really even sure how to start with this. The alsaplayer demonstrates the
same problems for the record.

I tried saving the config file for alsactl to see what options I would get but
this just gives me an empty array:

state.tm {
}

The audiophile USB doesn't have a mixer from what I understand so the
alsamixer app does not give me any options for controlling the unit.

So I am a bit stuck on how to proceed.

Any suggestions on what to try to get this puppy working again?

Cheers!
