The only way I have been able to get sound out of this interface is:

1. make sure the snd-usb-audio module is unloaded (I do /etc/init.d/
alsasound stop)

2. unplug the audiophile, then plug it back in. Turning it off and
back on should have the same effect, but it seems to take longer.

3. let the hotplug usb.agent load snd-usb-audio automatically.

This usually takes a few tries, but works eventually. Capture still
doesn't work, though, and I don't think s/pdif works either. There are
three general factors I can think of that might be preventing the
Audiophile from working correctly:

1. The hardware doesn't fully comply with the USB Audio Device Class
Definition, and the quirks haven't all been figured out

2. There is a race condition between snd-usb-audio, the kernel, and
usb.agent causing things to not happen in the same order every time
(putting some printk()s in the ALSA code and looking at the debugging
output confirms this)

3. There might be something wrong with ALSA's usb audio code (the
Audiophile does at least have consistently working playback with
0.9.0rc6, and with the OSS USB audio driver)
