Ok im having problems getting any control over my soundcard with any
mixer.I've been using the Creative Digital DIN for about 6 months without
having much control other than the Wave settings in alsamixer. This has been
fine cause I have a sound system with remote so I could mute and change
volume with that but now I need to be able to use my mic.

[EMAIL PROTECTED] ~]$ ls /dev/snd
controlC0 controlC2 controlC4 controlC6 hwC0D0 pcmC0D0c pcmC0D1c
pcmC0D3p
controlC1 controlC3 controlC5 controlC7 midiC0D0 pcmC0D0p pcmC0D2c
timer

As you can see above there is no native ALSA mixer device created and I have
to force an OSS mixer from modules.conf with the following in modules.conf.

alias char-major-116 snd
alias snd-card-0 snd-emu10k1
# module options should go here
post-install snd-emu10k1 alsactl restore
pre-remove snd-emu10k1 alsactl store

# OSS/Free portion
alias char-major-14 soundcore
alias sound-slot-0 snd-card-0

# card #1
alias sound-service-0-0 snd-mixer-oss
alias sound-service-0-1 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-3 snd-pcm-oss
alias sound-service-0-8 snd-seq-oss
alias sound-service-0-12 snd-pcm-oss

alias /dev/sound snd-card-0
alias /dev/sound/mixer snd-mixer-oss
alias /dev/sound/dsp* snd-pcm-oss
alias /dev/sound/audio* snd-pcm-oss
alias /dev/sound/adsp* snd-pcm-oss

I thought this was because of using the digital DIN and neither ALSA nor OSS
knew exactly what to do with it except dump the sound out.So after about a
week I talked myself into taking a digital I/O board that came with my Soyo
dragon ultra platinum mobo and soldering it to the pins on my SB Live.I
managed to get optical working without frying my sound card, but once again
im left without proper sound and no native or OSS mixer.I cant get 5:1
working with optical either just 2:1.I've tried the OSS module with the new
optical and can get my mic working but no mic volume control and even then I
can only get front and rear channels or front and center channels but not at
the same time.A couple months ago I was bored and installed the
crossover/crap plugin and just by mistake drug my mouse across the sound
control then low and behold the sound went down then back up.Needless to say
this annoyed the hell out of me since I had never been able to get anything
to control the volume with digital DIN.I've taken several hours a month since
reading all I could but have never found a way around this problem.I could
use analog and then turn on upmixing from my sound system but I want digital
thats why I bought the sound system in the first place. If anyone has this
sound card and uses the digital DIN or optical please help me get this
working properly before I lose it completely. It doesnt matter if I use
digital DIN or optical as long as I can use a mixer so I can use my mic.

On a side not when trying to find out how to solder a toslink to this sound
card I ran across these add on boards for SB Live at www.opticompo.com.Now in
the FAQ section it states this.

"Do POCAB, POAB and POFP work with all SB Live! models?

In principle - yes. But this means that the SB Live! release must have an
internal extension pinout (mostly a double-rowed 40-pin header) to attach the
POAB, POCAB or POFP.
Some SB Live! models are known to have no such extension header like the model
no. SB0220 or SB0100 (see the PCB label): Both are often sold with the
extension "Digital" to their name and in general available for quite a low
price."

Well I do have one of those model #'s and I do have that 40 pin header which
just confused me even more.
