I have the Hercules Gametheater XP but since it's the same chip I guess that doesn't make much difference. > Something I've seen mentioned several times: > > $ cat /proc/asound/card0/ac97#0regs > > ... > > 0:7e = 5914 > That register is *supposed* to be some other value, for 4-channel sound > to work right, and I don't know what it means, if it is not. I've checked, but I got a different value. Thanks for the other suggestions, but it didn't help I'm afraid. I'm now trying to get the onboard Intel8x0 (SoundMAX) working in surround mode. That's a strange piece of hardware too. It's got 3 audio ports which can be used for 3 configs. Line-out is front and line-in can be used for rear speakers. The win drivers reprograms the ports for this speaker setup but I don't know if the 'programming' is undone after a reboot to Linux. If I have to setup my .asoundrc in a special way, I sure don't now how. Ryan Underwood is trying to help some poor bloke with the same problem in http://www.mail-archive.com/[EMAIL PROTECTED]/msg09490.html but I don't have the same values in the source file he has. Apart from that, I haven't found more posts relating to this situation. But at leat Instant Music works with the onboard chip (playing cd's without turning on the PC).
