The IXP200 has an AC'97 controller; the AC'97 codec is an extra chip.

Ask ATI how to program the AC'97 controller in the IXP200.

An AC'97 bus.  This is a well-documented standard.

Many AC'97 controllers are similar to the Intel ones (only VIA's are
different).  You could try to add your PCI ID to the snd_intel8x0_ids
array in intel8x0.c and see what happens.
