I am using the Audigy2 Platinum eX and I managed to get ac3 passthrough using Xine and alsa. My connection to an external decoder is done via the mini-jack digital output on the breakout box of the soundcard, not via the RCA SPDIF output jack. Dolby Digital works perfectly, however DTS passthrough seems a little buggy. The decoder detects DTS signals, however the sound output is distorted. I have not managed to get ac3 passthrough using MPlayer at the moment. The passthrough should work without any fiddling of alsamixer. I do not have my configuration files at the moment as I am currently at work. I suggest that you try using Xine to see if ac3 passthrough works on your Audigy2, and I have no reason to doubt that it should not if alsa loads without any problems.

cat /proc/asound/ says something about spdif, but when i send anything other than pure pcm to the device, i get no output from my amp.
