  Sorry I'm so slow replying, but yes, the version's the same. I even
built the 1.0.2 drivers, libs and utils last night. This could drive me
crazy (well, crazier :)), I can use multiple playback or multiple capture
through asym, I just can't combine a playback and a capture. And I'd
almost bet it's some trivial thing.

  I've also tried different capture rates, since the first error seems to
be from pcm_direct.c, "requested or auto-format is not available". Tried
compiling alsa-lib with debug, but nothing is showing in my logs. Same
with alsa-driver.

  I almost wonder if the kernel version could play a part. I'm using
2.4.18-ck4, gcc 2.95.3 on Slackware.

  Me too. :) It's no real problem, I've been using ESD for ages, but if I
can figure this out I wouldn't even need it. Back to the head-scratching.
