Type "dmesg". If it can't find the firmware, it prints an
error message.

Did you download and install alsa-firmware ?  Check if
/lib/firmware is a symlink to /usr/lib/hotplug/firmware .
If it isn't, do it before installing the firmware.

If everything else fails recompile ALSA-driver with this option
added "--with-debug=full" and retry. It should print more
(hopefully useful) messages.
