Do not assume that the slider names bear any relation to what they do. Try
them all. Even if it says input, it may well control the output. or vice
versa. For example the "line" slider almost always controls the volume of
the output feed from that input. It has nothing to do with the input
volume. That is a different, incomprehensibly named slider.

'alsamixer'. When I press '<F5>' key, several 'ADC Capture' controls appear

Do not worry about resemblence in name. Try them.


Input volume is very low, headphones output is disabled, and I can't change 
this.

I'm using drivers from linux kernel 2.6.16 (gentoo 2.6.16-r7 version).
Non-free OSS drivers work fine.

Are you sure you do not have both modules loaded at the same time? That
would be a very bad idea. (ie oss modules and alsa modules.)
Also, use aplay nameoffile.wav to test the output. That directly uses the
alsa modules.
