You were right! Sorry for the delay, but I had to compile a couple kernels by 
hand to validate your hypothesis.

Some times ago, I used to compile my kernels by hand and then I tried to use 
the pre-built kernels from Xanmod. And whatever Xanmod version I used, I had no 
HDMI audio.

But, with a kernel compiled by myself, and with the compilation config file 
that I have always used (which is originally a copy of one from a Debian 
build), both kernels I have tried have worked, namely 5.10.119 (the latest 
long-term kernel from the before-last long-term branch) & 5.18.1 (the latest 
stable kernel).

With Xanmod kernels, I have tried both 5.10.119 & 5.18.1 and none of them 
provided me with HDMI audio, at least with my integrated Intel soundcard. So it 
is not a regression in the kernel, the culprit seems to be Xanmod. I'll try & 
notify them.
