Kevin,

Thanks for the reply. I agree with your point. I was trying to be complete and left out some important information.

I generally use a small ground plane antenna connected directly to the TeleBT and place it on top of my truck so that it is above everything. I assemble the rocket on the tail gate of the truck and that is where I was standing with the phone when I tried to connect the phone to the TeleBT. The rocket was fairly close to the phone at this point. I got it to connect when I placed the TeleBT down closer to the phone on the side of the truck bed, maybe 2 feet apart instead of 6 or 7 feet apart when it was on top of the truck cab. It could have also just been coincidence that it connected when it did. I need to repeat the steps and see if I can get it to consistently connect. This morning it connected when I went out and placed the TeleBT on the truck cab and came back inside the house. Probably 15 to 20 feet apart.

I'll have to try it that way with the TeleGPS next to the phone so I can rule that in or out of the probability pool. I'm still trying to figure out if there is some sort of TI that exists at the launch site or it is something I'm doing or something else. Curious to see if anyone else had experienced issues with the bluetooth connectivity?

FWIW, moving the TeleBT closer to the phone is often actually exactly what
you don't want to do.

I've found it works best if the TeleBT is at least a foot or two away from
the device it's trying to communicate with.

Subject: [altusmetrum] TeleBT Connect Issue

Issue:
Having problems establishing a link between the TeleGPS and cell phone.

Equipment:
TeleGPS
TeleBT
Samsung Galaxy S3 with Android 4.3
AltosDroid 1.5

Notes:
I test my tracking set up at home before I leave for the launch site and
every thing works correctly. The phone quickly connects to the TeleBT
and begins to announce the rocket status. When I power up everything
at the launch site the phone will not connect to the TeleBT. I have
tried closing and reopening the AltosDroid app, moving the TeleBT and
the phone closer together and power cycling the phone. At some point
while closing and reopening the AltosDroid app the app freezes on a
black screen and I have to reboot the phone to get it working again.
Eventually, the phone will connect to the TeleBT and once connected
everything works correctly. Yesterday it took almost 15 minutes to get
the phone to connect to the TeleBT. When it does connect it doesn't
seem to be due to anything that I have tried, it just finally decides to
connect.

This has happened each of the three times that I have taken this set up
out to the launch site. The launch site is out in the middle of
nowhere in the desert. There is some kind of microwave communications
site about 3 miles from the launch pad but otherwise nothing that should
interfere with a bluetooth link. Phone service is spotty at best at
the launch site.

Any ideas what could be happening? Does the app require phone service
to work correctly?

Terry
