I normally use the 3-element version. In theory, the 5-element is higher gain and thus more directional, but in practice I've found the additional size and weight seem like a bad choice most of the time. Note that you really really want to have at least a rough bearing while it's still in the air, since range is substantially limited once the airframe is on the ground. Bdale
