Recently I had to swap out one of our solaris boxes and had to redo amanda
on it.  I ended up running with GNU tar 1.12 plus patches, because even
1.1.3.17 was exhibiting the same behavior -- ie. backing up only directories
and not files.  I am glad I switched back to 1.12 because I had a major disk
failure and had to restore from backup....I am very, vary glad I switched
back.
