Here is what it looks like in my disklist.
homer c0t0d0s0 nocomp-root # /
homer c0t0d0s1 nocomp-user # /usr
homer c0t0d0s4 nocomp-user # /var
homer c0t0d0s7 nocomp-user # /opt
homer c0t0d0s6 nocomp-user # /export
homer /dev/md/dsk/d0 nocomp-user # /u01
homer c0t0d0s3 nocomp-user # /usr/local
and in index directory of homer:
[root@marge homer]# ls -l
total 18
drwxr-sr-x 9 amanda backup 512 Nov 1 13:16 ./
drwxr-sr-x 7 amanda backup 512 Oct 26 11:49 ../

[root@marge homer]# cd _dev_md_dsk_d0/

-rw------- 1 amanda backup 20 Nov 1 13:04 20001101_1.gz
As you can see the size of those index files for /dev/md/dsk/d0...
and the output of the 20001101_1.gz:
[root@marge _dev_md_dsk_d0]# gzcat 20001101_1.gz
[root@marge _dev_md_dsk_d0]#
It should contain at least 34000 entries for full backup.
Hope that'd give you some extra information.
