Are you saying the dump image restored from tape, e.g. with amrestore,
is bad (short) or that when you then process it with tar to extract a
single file, that file is the one that is short?
Does the size of the image match what Amanda told you when it dumped it?
Either the E-mail report or "amadmin <config> find <host> <disk>" should
show you the output size (or there are other ways, if this doesn't work).
If you do a "tar t" of the whole image, does it whine about anything?
Are you certain when you configured Amanda on this machine it found the
right tar? What's in /tmp/amanda/amandad*debug and sendbackup*debug
for a typical run?
Were you using GNU tar 1.12+ to do the extract or did you just say "tar"
and maybe get the vendor provided one?
