As far as I know, "man amanda" describes every amanda.conf parameter,
at least at 2.4.1p1. I'm working on bringing the 2.4.2 docs up to date.

I don't understand. First of all, Amanda always uses a non-rewind device.
However it also always starts writing from beginning of tape. What did
you expect it to do, i.e. where is the "logic error" in the above?
And what other "logic errors" are you seeing that you can't believe?

As I said above, "man amanda" will tell you about all the parameters.
The tapedev parameter is the only one Amanda normally uses. According to
the man page:
rawtapedev "string"
Default: /dev/null. The path name of the raw tape
device. It is only used if Amanda is compiled for
Linux machines with floppy tapes. It is needed for QIC
volume table operations.
