FAQ-O-Matic and the e-groups archive can answer just about any question
that isn't answered in the man pages, example configuration files, and
documentation files that come with the amanda tarball. If that all fails,
this forum happily answers specific questions.

/dev/nst0 is the non-rewind*ing* tape device, not non-rewindable. There's
a difference. non-rewinding means that the OS won't automatically rewind
the tape when it's done with the current operation on the tape. Other
than that, there is no difference between /dev/nst0 and /dev/st0. They're
both virtual interfaces to the same physical device, and both are capable
of accepting rewind commands.

I simply used the example amanda.conf and tailored it to my needs. It's
very self-documenting, especially when supplemented by the man pages.
