Hi all,
I have been trying out backing up and restoring windows files with amanda,
but have a few questions.....
Here are the versions I am running:
amanda 2.4.1p1 pacthed with the following patches:
glibc21.patch, glibc22.patch, samba2-20000418.diff, amtape.diff
samba 2.0.5a (not patched, with amanda's samba patch, as I thought it is only
for earlier samba versions)
The first question is when using amverify I get this message:
>amverify Workstations
>Mon Nov 13 13:43:43 NZDT 2000
>Using device /dev/nst2
>Volume Workstations1, Date 20001113
>Skipped LB-S545A.__WS-P200A_BACKUP.20001113.0 (** Cannot do
>/usr/local/samba/bin/smbclient dumps)
>End-of-Tape detected.
>Rewinding...
I have looked in the amanda archives and have found some postings similar
saying ** Cannot do /bin/tar dumps ** etc....and most replys say to edit amverify
and add a entry to idenitfy the dump type needed..but I do not know how to
implement this with smbclient...
The second question might not be for this group, but rather for SAMBA
but I'll post it in case:
When running either amrecover or amrestore to recover the backup, it
seems to be very slow....compeared to recovering a ext2fs backup...is this to do
with the smbclient/smbtar programs...rather than amandas amrestore/amrecover??
This is how I used the amrestore/amrecover commands:
Using amrestore as "amrestore -p /dev/nst2 <host> //WS-K200A/BACKUP | s
mbclient <passwd> //WS-K200A/BACKUP -U Backup -d0 -Tx -" to recover the files
from tape stright to the share....very slow and then stops with a broken pipe...
Using amrecover, first using smbmount to mount the share to a local dir
ectory, and then using amrecover to restore into this directory...again very sl
ow...and stops with an error.
Or am I going about this recovery the wrong way?...
Any help would be great.....thanks
