John,

YOU DA MAN! and don't let anyone tell you otherwise. I did even more
poking around on Sony but didn't find anything more detailed on SCSI
error codes, just some page saying "no further information is available"
and that I could send e-mail to tech support. I checked their faxback
system too with no luck.

I sent e-mail to Sony tech support asking if I could get a SCSI command
reference for the TSL-11000, and more specifically what the particular
error code means.

I modified my "nst-sleep" script so that it would also "detect" tapes
being unloaded, and put nst-sleep in place of regular sleep in the
chg-zd-mtx script, so the script does wait for the load and unload
functions to complete, but the SCSI bus reset still occurs.

I'm going to try it again with mtx-1.1 in case the error has something
to do with the barcode queries which are mentioned as a potential
problem with mtx > 1.1 on the mtx web page. I might also try the latest
mtx to see what happens.

If mtx-1.1 doesn't work, I'll try an strace on mtx to try to see what
it's doing when it decides to reset the bus.
