Ok, I'll lay out the timeline of this sequence first.
Wed. (11-15) 12:45AM - amdump error's on 1 client FS with the error no
estimate or historical dat.
Thurs 12:45AM - amdump runs without problems
Thurs 4:00PM - Setup amcheck as a cron job and subsequently run's at 4 and
reports the error "Cannot overwrite active tape Daily-05 (expecting a new
tape)"
Fri 12:45AM - amdump fails on ALL volumes, error is Cannot overwrite active
tape Daily-05 (which is the next tape in the 5 tape cycle of 7 days) and dumps
all data to the holding disk where it cannot be fully dumped.
What I would like to know (since it's hard to trouble-shoot in 3-1/2 hour
increments) is what is causing amdump to see that days tape as active and why
won't it perform it's dump. Is amcheck causing this problem? why is amcheck
seeing that tape as active and reporting an error? I checked the tapelist and
verified that the tapes and dates are correct. How should the tapelist be laid
out? is there something that should be run after amcheck to make sure amdump
see's the tape correctly and dumps to it? I have checked and rechecked my
config's. I understand that amcheck will fail if the previous dump did not
complete, but at 4:00pm on thurs after a successful dump, amcheck shouldn't
have reported the tape as being active and unable to be overwritten should it?
does amdump need to run *before* 12am for amcheck to continue w/o errors? Any
ideas would be great.
Thanks
Tom
