It may not be possible to do subdirs with dump.  It definitely depends
on the dump that came with your OS.  (I don't have Solaris experience
and for some odd reason the only dump on a Solaris system I just peeked
at looks like some sort of core dumping utility.)  Dump normally does
entire filesystems, though reports here say Linux dump does subdirs
(if you even trust Linux dump at all).  tar will do subdirs.
