Yes; i assume you are using Amanda 2.4.1 or 2.4.2?
In these versions /dev/null is for testing purposes only.
Use a device that does'nt really exist and configure your
dumptype to use a holdingdisk.
Then all dumps will go to the holdingdisk and nothing will be written
to a non existing device.
