This is in the 2.4.2 "man amanda":

     For Samba access, Amanda needs a file on the Samba server
     (which may or may not also be the tape server) named
     /etc/amandapass with share names, (clear text) passwords and
     (optional) domain names, in that order, one per line, whi-
     tespace separated. By default, the user used to connect to
     the PC is the same for all PC's and is compiled into Amanda.
     It may be changed on a host by host basis by listing it
     first in the password field followed by a percent sign and
     then the password.  For instance:

       //some-pc/home    normalpw
       //another-pc/disk otheruser%otherpw

This is in docs/SAMBA for that release:

     Amanda client software, and the patched samba is installed onto a host
     'pcserver'. A share to be backed up is called 'backupc' on host
     'thepc'. The share will be accessed with the user 'bozo' and
     password 'f00bar'.
     ...
     And in /etc/amandapass on the machine 'pcserver', this line must be
     present :
     //thepc/backupc bozo%f00bar

I don't know if this will fix your particular problem, but it at least
describes the alternate user name syntax.
