HI Group,
I would like some advice from the group on which direction to go on
storage devices. I will give you some details and then you can advise
away.

I have been working in Tech Support for about 2 months now. When I
started I was asked to research whatever I wanted (that wasn't already
being done by someone) and I chose backups and recoveries. I have been
watching this group for about a month (very informative I might add) and
reading Curtis Preston's "Unix Backup & Recovery".

Our Tech Support consists of 8 to 12 boxes (seperate from System
Administration that runs our server room). Our boxes are mostly
experimental for us, lots of installs, reinstalls, delete things on
purpose, try this, try that, etc., etc..

My next step is to get Amanda installed on all the boxes and start
experimenting with her. None of us know much about backups and
recoveries so we need to start learning. Who can advise on where to
turn for a tape drive?

Most boxes have HD's of 8-12 gig, a couple as big as 20gig. Almost all
are dual boot machines. The tape server will be running Linux, probably
Mandrake 7.2. Where is the BEST place to go for a tape drive. Nothing
mission critical on these machines so we don't need ALL the bells and
whistles and cost will be a factor when I submit a proposal. Would even
go used if someone has a line on where to go for one of them.
Personally, I find the auction pages confusing and misleading.

Any help would surely be appreciated and maybe soon I will be posting
questions (and more importantly, answers) to this group.
