>I use amanda 2.4.2p1

I just applied some changes to the CVS sources last night that do a
better job of logging what is going on. If you can at least temporarily
upgrade to them, it will be a whole lot easier to debug.

Are these in /usr/local? Is that NFS mounted from someplace or on a
local disk? If NFS mounted, is setuid allowed across the mount?

>ERROR: 10.0.0.1: [host backupserver.myplace.org: port 1025 not secure]

This says amcheck on backupserver.myplace.org tried to get a reserved port
(< 1024) and that didn't work so it ended up with a normal port number.
The operation can fail if amcheck does not run as root, or if all the
port numbers it tried (512 .. 1023) were in use.
