OK.  The first thing to do is look at the actual index files and see if
they have the entries (this is sounding familiar, so if we've gone down
this path before and I've forgotten, my apologies).  If the files are
listed, it's an amrecover problem.

If they are not, the next thing to do is see if they are really on
the backup image or not.  Since it's formatted as a plain tar file,
you should be able to run it through "tar t" on a Unix system and see
what's really there.  If the files are in the image, it's a problem
generating the catalogue.  If the files are not in the image, it's a
problem getting them backed up with smbclient.

Once we know which of these is the area responsible, debugging it can
proceed from there.
