Amanda has been running for four days now and this morning I get a
message from amcheck (ran by cron) saying:
Amanda Tape Server Host Check
-----------------------------
Holding disk /b4/amanda_holding_disk: 6198428 KB disk space available,
that's plenty
amcheck-server: slot 5: date 20010330 label noemix-daily05 (active tape)
amcheck-server: fatal slot 6: Loading Storage Element 6 into Data
Transfer Element...mtx:
Cleaning Cartridge Installed and Ejected
ERROR: label noemix-daily01 or new tape not found in rack
(expecting tape noemix-daily01 or a new tape)
NOTE: skipping tape-writable test
Server check took 119.812 seconds
The tape noemix-daily01 is in slot 1. I thought that by using the
tpchanger "chg-zd-mtx" that amanda would automatically cycle through all
tapes (from tape 5/6 to tape 1). Am I using the right tape changer
driver or maybe I just need to upgrade it? Is this even possible?
Configuration:
-HP SureStore DAT24x6e
-5 tapes
-1 cleaning tape (slot 6)
-Amanda v2.4.2p1
-dumpcycle 1 weeks
-runspercycle 4
-tapecycle 5 tapes
-Debian Linux 2.2
The second question I have deals with my configuration. I want a full
backup once a week with weekday incrementals (as much as possible with
the current number of tapes available). After reading the amanda
chapter in Unix Backup & Recovery, the author recommends adding another
tape to avoid writing over the last full dump. Do I really need to
worry about this? Also, do I really need the cleaning tape in slot 6?
I would rather have another writeable tape available and just clean the
drive manually every so often.
Thanks,
Terry
