By "given the amanda server rights" do you mean you changed the firewall
config or the Amanda config?
If you only changed the firewall, you also need to rerun ./configure for
Amanda (remove config.cache first or "make distclean") and restrict the
ports it uses with --with-portrange (TCP) and --with-udpportrange.
If it continues to give you grief, you might get the latest CVS 2.4.2
branch of code. I've added more messages about exactly what Amanda is
trying to do, e.g. what ports it is attempting to use.
