As an aside, there are many local exploits extant in that kernel that are
fixed in the 2.2.19 update that RedHat put out. I would seriously
consider applying that (and all, of course) security updates.

Well, you don't specify what decent and fair is. But I've seen many
positive reviews and recommendations for Sony's AIT series drives. I've
got an AIT1 here, and like it very much. And with AIT2 out for a while
and AIT3 coming RSN, the AIT1 drives are pretty inexpensive.
