I have good expierences with DLT 4000 and 8000, both under Linux (you
should use stinit from the mt-st package for tape drive initialization).
With the DLT 8000 I get over 5MB/s (without hardware compression).
In think it is nice that you may use the DLT cartridges up 500.000 times
according to the manufacturer (about 200 times for DDS).
If you plan to install an internal DLT streamer you should care for
sufficient cooling (the air should stream through the tape from front to
back, like in an external case). And you need enough space (5 1/4" full
height, deeper than a big hard disk).
