Hmm it would be nice if you can give chg-scsi from the 2.5.0 development version
a try before writing an own script. To control a library you need an scsi
passthrough device, which is not included in AIX (from what i know). There
is an drive available for AIX. See the contrib directory in amanda 2.5.0
(contrib/gsc)

As the current maintainer of chg-scsi i can try to help you to get
chg-scsi running .....
