Wow, just when I thought the world was my oyster (AMANDA-ly speaking), I
hit a roadblock that I can't stumble past.

I have a tapeserver I'll call 'basecamp' with AMANDA up and ready to
serve. I have a NIS+ server which needs to be backed up (which I'll call
'xena'). Through much trial and error I've noticed that if I put 'files'
first in my /etc/nsswitch.conf file for the line 'services' then I *can*
run amcheck fine. If I put 'nisplus' first (with the [NOTFOUND=return]
bit after it) and *then* files the self-check times out.

Since I have to keep nisplus first in the nsswitch.conf file for the
service line, I've been looking at incorporating into the NIS+ services
listing. I find on my box there is a file in /etc/nis+/files/ called
services, so I insert the amanda[tab]10080/udp line and restart things
(the service, then the whole box) and keep getting the:

amanda/udp: unknown service

error messsage in /var/adm/messsages

Now I've seen a lot of 'amanda/udp: unknown service' messages in the
archive, but all of them were without NIS+ being involved.

I can't find a reason why NIS+ (on the NIS+ server) isn't accepting this
new service. I've checked for tabs/whitespace in the file, but it just
ain't taking. Also since it's the master NIS+ server I haven't done a
nispopulate (since I presumably don't need to populate the server that's
dictating the service).

This request for help is more NIS than AMANDA, but it's AMANDA I'm trying
to get goin' here. :)

Any ideas?

Cheers!

Chris
