What you want is the amanda-242-tapeio CVS branch. In particular,
look at the "file" driver in the "OUTPUT DRIVERS" section of amanda(8).
The tapeio code in general is under development but as far as I know,
the "file" driver is fully functional. I'm working on an unrelated
change that will affect the "disk as tape" format, but in an upward
and backward compatible way.
This CVS branch is identical to the current 2.4.2(p2) branch, and it is
kept in sync with that. The only change is the addition of the tapeio
output generalization feature.
