Ummm, what "mt commands"? They should all have been replaced by ammt
calls in the -tapeio branch.
Part of the -tapeio branch code is the addition of two new programs,
ammt and amdd. Both go through the tapeio switch and therefor know how
to deal with "file" (and "null" and "rait" and so on) output devices.
For instance, I "ammt -f file:/whatever rewind" all the time for testing
(and is it ever fast :-).
The other benefit of ammt is we can finally get away from the bajillion
variations of "mt" and standardize on what Amanda needs. The bad news
is that we now have to know the right OS interfaces, so there may be
some growing pains while that gets sorted out.
I usually use chg-multi rather than chg-manual, and I think that should
work for you, too. It includes a new posteject config option that can
call an external script every time a "tape" is ejected, which could,
in turn, tell you to load the next one.
If you need other features to make this work for you, please let me know.
For instance, there might be the need for a matching "preload" callout.
