I didn't figure it would :-). I wanted to see the output to try and
figure out why not.
However, sounds like you've already worked things out.

It's my understanding it should be a line per tape with the first field
being the Amanda tape label and the second being the barcode.

I'll get it fixed so this is treated the same as not finding the label
in the file. There's also a bug that when the file does not exist it
is being built wrong (a single zero is put it in like the other files
that hold counters).

First, zap that file to zero length (cp /dev/null ...). Then, I **think**
you should be able to do "amtape <config> update" (as the Amanda user)
to build the file.
This obviously needs much better documentation. Sorry.

There are versions of this file in the "example" directory (in the
Amanda sources) based on the OS. Copy the one you want to (e.g.)
the amanda.conf directory and edit as needed. Then set changerfile in
amanda.conf to point to it.
>amcheck-server: could not get changer info: chg.conf[0] == NULL
This means your changer config file has a syntax error (yes, this also
needs a lot of work). If starting from the example files does not help,
please post what you're trying to use and maybe someone here can see
what's wrong
