Thanks. Although strictly, it says"running as user "tape" instead of
"root"." If it means "you ran amcheck as "tape" but "dumpuser" in
amanda.conf is set to "root"," why not say that? It just seems like
there are far too many places where you have to setup rights and users
to make this work. For usability, couldn't that be simplified?

That's what I guessed but I thought I'd point it out just in case it
might have some affect.

Ah... It appears not to have been. At least there's no USE_AMANDAHOSTS

2.4.1p1 on the client, 2.4.2p2 on the server. Are there
incompatibility issues between the versions?
I'll upgrade the client machine and rebuild to use amandahosts. That
will probably solve all the access problems.
